How to Design Your Perfect Morning Routine


Mornings can be magical—or they can feel like chaos. For a while, I had a morning routine I absolutely loved. It set the tone for my day, helped me feel productive, and gave me a sense of calm before diving into the busyness of life. This year, one of my goals was to get back to that routine.


But, let’s be honest, life has a way of throwing curveballs. With our current moving situation, my routine has been on hold. And while it’s frustrating at times, I know I’ll get back to it. Routines don’t have to be perfect; they just have to work for you—and sometimes, that means being flexible and giving yourself grace.


If you’re looking for inspiration to create a morning routine that fits your life, I highly recommend The 5AM Club by Robin Sharma. It’s packed with actionable advice on how to maximize your mornings and live intentionally. While I may not be part of the 5AM crew just yet, the principles in this book are incredibly motivating and have helped me rethink how I structure my day.


Here are a few things I’ve learned about morning routines and how to make them work:


  1. Keep It Simple: When I started my morning routine, I thought it had to be elaborate and Instagram-worthy. Nope. Even small habits—like making my bed or sipping a glass of water—can set a positive tone for the day. Start small, and let your routine grow over time.


  2. Plan Ahead: Mornings are smoother when the prep work is done the night before. Whether it’s laying out clothes, packing lunches, or writing down a quick to-do list, planning ahead lets you hit the ground running without the guesswork.


  3. Find a Moment of Quiet: Before the day’s chaos begins, I try to carve out a few quiet moments just for me. Whether it’s journaling, sipping coffee, or simply sitting in stillness, this time helps me reset and set my intentions for the day.


  1. Move Your Body: I’m not a morning workout person, but even a few stretches or a quick walk around the house helps me wake up and feel ready for the day. Movement doesn’t have to be intense—just consistent.


  2. Fuel Yourself: I used to skip breakfast, but I’ve realized how much better I feel when I eat something in the morning. A little fuel, like overnight oats or a smoothie, goes a long way in helping me stay energized and focused.


Here’s the thing: morning routines don’t have to be perfect or look like anyone else’s. They’re meant to serve YOU. So, if you’re in a season where your routine is on pause, like I am, remember it’s okay. Life happens, and you can always pick it back up when the time is right.


For now, I’m focusing on small wins, giving myself grace, and taking inspiration from The 5AM Club to plan for when I can fully dive back into my routine.
